3: Error Message: “...requires IE5 or higher in order to run...” when IE5 is already installed.

1: Incompatibility with Internet Explorer version 5.5 and above

The incompatibility manifests itself in various ways. The most common symptoms being the missing vertical scroll bar making it virtually imposible to page-down and view definitions which are longer than a screen length, and also when attempting to print, the main text is missing and only the header and footer are printed.

There is an upgrade to the Versaware engine available for download
versaware_upgrade.zip. With the original installation already on the machine, extract the files to a temporary folder and double-click on the SETUP.EXE file to start the installation.

2: Incompatibility with early versions of Windows 95

“VNUTIL.DLL FILE IS LINKED TO MISSING EXPORT KERNEL32.DLL : GetDiskFreeSpaceExA”
The above error message appears when attempting to open the NODE program. Unfortunately this incompatibility cannot be resolved. Please return the NODE to the place of purchase and request a refund.

3: Error Message: “...requires IE5 or higher in order to run...” when IE5 or higher is already installed.

If using Windows 2000 or Windows XP but not logged in with Administrator permissions, the above error message will appear when trying to start the NODE program, even if the correct version of Internet Explorer is installed. Unfortunately Versaware are no longer in a position to resolve this problem, consequently the only way to run the NODE on Windows 2000 or XP, is to log in with Administrator permissions.

4: Problems using the Internet features

Unfortunately all features requiring Internet access are no longer available (e.g. Bookstore, Registration and downloads). Versaware, which provided these services on our behalf are not currently able to do so.

5: Conflict with MS Word version 7 (Office 95)

If the Word 95 application is already open and an attempt is made to open the NODE, the result is that Word 95 closes. If there is an unsaved document open, then Word 95 does not close but instead a message will appear in Word prompting for the document to be saved. Unfortunately Versaware are no longer in a position to fix this problem.

6: The NODE on Windows 2000 and XP

Local Administrator permissions are required in order to run the OCD on Windows 2000 or XP. In some versions of Windows, namely NT4, 2000 and XP, it is possible to assign different permissions to each user, thus enabling less experienced user to have restricted access to the machine. When referring to logging in with Administrator permissions, this means the user with the most control over the machine. To check what type of permissions a user has it is best to search the Windows Help, because it may be different for each version of Windows.
