Technical Issues

1: Configure the OTM to run without the CD in the drive
2: Error message - “Non fatal error at script line 23”
3: Error message - “Initialization of booklayer compressed data failed”

1: Configure the OTM to run without the CD in the drive

To achieve this, copy the contents of the OTM CD-ROM to a folder on the hard disk, e.g. C:\OXFMED and run the INSTALL.EXE from that folder. Once the installation has finished, use NOTEPAD to amend the OTM.INI file and the MCQ.INI file, usually located in the C:\WINDOWS folder or the C:\WINNT folder. In the OTM.INI file look for the line starting BOOK FILE= and amend the path to point to the OXFMED folder on the hard disk, e.g.

    BOOK FILE=C:\OXFMED\OTM\OTM.AND
In the MCQ.INI file look for the line starting BOOK FILE= and amend the path to point to the OXFMED folder on the hard disk, e.g.
    BOOK FILE=C:\OXFMED\MCQ\MCQ.AND

2: Error message - “Non fatal error at script line 23”

This error message appears with the network version of the OTM when attempting to perform the installation on a client machine. It indicates that the client machine has not mapped a network drive to the machine acting as the OTM server. Use the steps below as a guide.

[1] From the client machine, use NETWORK NEIGHBOURHOOD to locate the OTM server machine
[2] Right-click on the OTM3 folder located on the server machine. Choose MAP NETWORK DRIVE... from the popup menu.
[3] Choose a free letter from the drop-down list, tick the RECONNECT AT LOGON box and click OK
[4] Open MY COMPUTER and double-click on the drive letter chosen in step [3], double-click on the INSTALL.EXE file to initialize the installation

3: Error message - “Initialization of booklayer compressed data failed”

This occurs when the OTM program is looking in the wrong place for the datafile. To resolve this problem, open the OTM.INI file usually located in the
C:\WINDOWS folder or the C:\WINNT folder. Look for the line starting
BOOK FILE= and make sure it is pointing at the correct drive letter and folder, usually

    C:\OTM3\OTM\OTM.AND
