I must admit after trying to find time before and after work every day for 18 months to write the first Oxford Handbook of Clinical Dentistry with my husband, my next priority was not getting a contract for another textbook! However, there is great satisfaction in finally seeing your work in the form of a book in a real bookshop (though it is difficult the first time not to gleefully point it out to all the customers and staff), so I guess I got my arm twisted.
This new edition, like previous editions is directed primarily at the undergraduate dental student and the newly qualified dentist. However in parallel with other disciplines the role of other members of the dental team is expanding and therefore it is hoped that this book will prove useful and informative for the newly introduced Orthodontic Therapist.
As an undergraduate myself I was always drawn to those textbooks with clear simple explanations and lots of coloured pictures therefore in this book I have tried to replicate the approach that aided my own learning. This new edition has been completely revised and has benefited from the addition of two new contributors who are both experts in their own fields and also well known for their commitment to teaching. An additional and innovative feature is the final section on Orthodontic First Aid, which it is hoped will be of direct benefit to dentists and their patients alike.
