Philosophy at Oxford - A Word from the Editor

Peter Momtchiloff, Commissioning Editor for Philosophy, writes:

"Oxford University Press aims to publish the best work in most areas of philosophy. This is the best way to define the territory that my commissioning covers: philosophy as it is practised in philosophy departments in the English-speaking academic world. Our authors include many eminent philosophers from America, Britain, Europe, and Australasia. We have strong lists in:
  • moral, political, and legal philosophy
  • philosophy of mind and language (including interdisciplinary work in cognitive science)
  • metaphysics and epistemology
  • philosophical logic
  • philosophy of science and mathematics
  • philosophy of art, music, and literature
  • philosophy of religion
  • ancient philosophy
  • history of modern British, European, and American philosophy

The readership for which I primarily commission is scholars and advanced students of philosophy; some of my books also sell to a broader general readership. My colleague Ruth Anderson is in charge of our college philosophy publishing--books written primarily for an undergraduate readership. If there is anything you would like to ask about OUP's philosophy publishing, please do get in touch with me."
