We have a reputation larger than our size due to two major copyrights: the Oxford Textbook of Medicine and Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine
We are known for quality product and are well regarded by the medical profession
Brief history
Influential texts published from 1695 onwards
For example, 1750's A Dissertation Concerning the Use of Sea Water in the Diseases of the Glands &c. started the practice of sea-bathing, now a popular pass-time for non-medical reasons!
The acquisition of a medical list from an Edinburgh publisher heralded the beginning of concerted medical publishing at OUP in 1907
In the First World War, OUP supplied much-needed medical textbooks to the Army and others in the form of Oxford War Primers - these can be considered as the forerunners of the famous Oxford Handbooks
The medical department is now fully integrated into the Academic Division of OUP
