Brief history
- Influential texts published from 1695 onwards
- For example, 1750's A Dissertation Concerning the Use of Sea Water in the Diseases of the Glands &c. started the practice of sea-bathing, now a popular pass-time for non-medical reasons!
- The acquisition of a medical list from an Edinburgh publisher heralded the beginning of concerted medical publishing at OUP in 1907
- In the First World War, OUP supplied much-needed medical textbooks to the Army and others in the form of Oxford War Primers - these can be considered as the forerunners of the famous Oxford Handbooks
- The medical department is now fully integrated into the Academic Division of OUP
