Brief history

  • Influential texts published from 1695 onwards

  • The acquisition of a medical list from an Edinburgh publisher heralded the beginning of concerted medical publishing at OUP in 1907
  • In the First World War, OUP supplied much-needed medical textbooks to the Army and others in the form of Oxford War Primers - these can be considered as the forerunners of the famous Oxford Handbooks
  • The medical department is now fully integrated into the Academic Division of OUP
