Centenary Competition Results

To celebrate our centenary, the medical department at Oxford University Press decided to give away 100 classic, recent and new books to the most deserving medical institution. We were looking for the hospital, clinic, medical service or organisation in the developing world, which would benefit most from 100 of the best quality medical books available.

The competition was running for three months until the end of October, and we received over 100 entries!

It was very difficult to choose the most deserving institution, but after careful consideration we decided that College of Medicine in Malawi will receive the prize of 100 medical books.

However, in the process of selecting the winner we realized how many more need extra resources. So we drew up a short list of 10 more institutions and offered them a set of 5 Oxford Handbooks:

  • University of Health Sciences in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
  • Faculty Of Medicine University Of Gezira/ Sudan
  • G R Medical college, Gwalior, India
  • Intensive Care Unit, Jimma Hospital, Ethiopia
  • Kiwoko Hospital, Uganda
  • University Teaching Hospital, Lusaka, Zambia
  • Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College Jabalpur, India
  • Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra state, Nigeria
  • Patna Medical College Hospital, Bihar, India
  • Rabat University in Khartoum, Sudan

All the above institutions are now being contacted and we are arranging delivery of the books.
