Technical Issues

1: Unable to change destination path during installation
2: Unable to use long filenames during installation
3: Running the OBC on Windows XP
4: Unable to print several articles at once
5: Unable to click on links to certain sections
6: Error message - “No suitable KeyLink is specified...”
7: Procedure for backing up and restoring Unlock information
8: Running the OBC without the CD in the drive

1: Unable to change destination path during installation

This usually happens when attempting to reinstall the OBC software without first completely uninstalling it. In order to allow the software to be installed to a different location, some amendments need to be made to the WIN.INI file.

Open the file WIN.INI, usually found in the WINDOWS, or WINNT, folder. Look for, and delete, the following lines.

    [LRSystems]
    InstallSplash=0
    System=C:\LRSYSTEM
    LLS=C:\LOGOS20\LOGOS.EXE

    [Sounds]
    LogosQuit=C:\LOGOS20\AMEN.WAV,Logos Quit
    LogosJump=C:\LOGOS20\BLOOP.WAV,Logos Jump
    LogosStart=C:\LOGOS20\ISING.WAV,Logos Started
    LogosSearchDone=C:\LOGOS20\JOYFUL.WAV,Logos Search Completed
    LogosSearchStart=C:\LOGOS20\OWORSHIP.WAV,Logos Search Started
    LogosPopup=C:\LOGOS20\POP.WAV,Logos Popup

Save the file and attempt to reinstall the OBC software.

2: Unable to use long filenames during installation

Unfortunately, because the OBC software is 16 bit software, it cannot accept filenames longer than 8 characters. This means that it cannot be installed to the folder C:\PROGRAM FILES\OBC. Instead it is better to accept the default installation path. Once an attempt to install the OBC to a folder with a long filename, it may be necessary to perform the amendment stated in
Technical Issue 1

3: Running the OBC on Windows XP

The OBC software has not been specifically designed to run on Windows XP. It is necessary to be logged in with Computer Administrator permissions, in order for the OBC program to be opened.

4: Unable to print several articles at once

Unfortunately the OBC has not been designed to print more than one article at a time. The following error messages may occur.

    “Logos20. An error has occured in your program. To keep working anyway click ignore and save your work in a new file.”

    “Program has performed an illegal operation. GPF in module logos.exe”

5: Unable to click on links to certain sections

This is a bug in the OBC software which has not been fixed. Some of the sections in the OBC have not been tagged correctly, the only way to view them is to scroll down from the previous section, as opposed to typing a keyword in the search box.

6: Error message - “No suitable KeyLink is specified...”

This error message appears when attempting to click on a link to the Bible itself when the New Revised Standard Version has not been unlocked. Whichever version of the OBC has been purchased, either the Unlock of the Sample CD or the OBC retail pack, the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible has to be purchased and unlocked in order to be able to use the links shown in the OBC. The New Revised Standard Version is not available from Oxford University Press but can be purchased from the Logos Research Systems Web site.

7: Procedure for backing up and restoring Unlock information

If using the Sample CD-ROM available free with the purchase of the book edition. There is an option to purchase the complete OBC version by way of unlocking the data on the Sample CD-ROM. Once this has been done, it is recommended that a backup is made of the unlock information on to a floppy disk. This is in case a reinstallation of the OBC is necessary at any time, so that the data can be restored without having to pay again for a further unlock.

Backing up the Unlock

[1] Open the OBC program.
[2] Go to the menu TOOLS | BACKUP LOGOS SYSTEM FILES...
[3] A window will appear to save a file called LOGOS.LSB
[4] In the DRIVES section, click on the down arrow and scroll up until the A: drive is reached. Select it and click the OK button. Make sure that a blank floppy disk is in the drive.
[5] Once the file is copied to the floppy disk, label the disk clearly and place in a safe place for future use.

Restoring an Unlock from backup

[1] Open the OBC program.
[2] Go to the menu TOOLS | RESTORE SYSTEM FILES FROM BACKUP...
[3] A window will appear to open the file called LOGOS.LSB
[4] Navigate to the floppy drive by clicking on the down arrow of the DRIVES section. Select A: and click OK. Make sure that the backup floppy disk is in the drive.
[5] Restart the OBC program.

8: Running the OBC without the CD in the drive

As a default the OBC data remains on the CD-ROM which means that the CD must be present in the drive each time the program is opened. The OBC can be configured to run without the CD in the drive by using the TOOLS | LIBRARIAN menu to copy the appropriate data to the hard disk.
