Technical Issues

1: Error message - “The file cannot be opened.
Please insert the book's CD-ROM disk in the drive and click Retry”

This occurs when the Superlex program is looking in the wrong place for the required book. To resolve this problem click CANCEL to the error message. Use the FILE | REMOVE BOOK... menu item to remove the problem book. Then using the ADD BOOK... menu item, navigate to the C:\BILING folder (if the dictionary has been installed completely on to the hard disk), or navigate to the CD drive to find the appropriate book.

2: Conflict with Iomega Zip/Jaz drive

There is a known conflict between the ORD and IMGICON.EXE, which is the software that creates the Zip or Jaz drive icon in Windows Explorer. The result is that evey time the ORD is opened, the machine hangs or freezes. To prevent this from happening the IMGICON.EXE will need to be disabled. This can be achieved by removing the IMGICON shortcut usually found in the START | PROGRAMS | STARTUP folder, and restarting the machine. The Zip/Jaz drive will still function fully, the only difference will be that when looking at the Zip/Jaz drive in Windows Explorer, the icon will look like that of an ordinary removable drive, rather than a Zip/Jaz drive.

3: Error message - “Setup is unable to locate the script file”

To resolve this problem, a manual installation can be attempted.

    [1] Copy the following 5 files from the SUPERLEX folder on the CD to your
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder.
    • Book.dll
    • Cdcops.dll
    • Format2.dll
    • Mfcoleui.dll
    • Winstory.dll
    [2] Copy the following 4 files from the SUPERLEX folder on the CD to a new folder on your hard disk, e.g. C:\BILING
    • Slex44e.hlp
    • Slex44e3.oxr
    • Superlex.qz_
    • Superlex.exe
    [3] Go to START | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL, double-click the FONTS icon. Go to FILE menu, select INSTALL NEW FONT.....
    [4] Navigate to the CD drive and double-click on the FONTS folder. When the fonts appear listed in the window (it may take a few seconds), click the SELECT ALL button, then click OK.
    [5] Copy the file ORD.AND from the BOOKS folder on the CD to your hard disk folder C:\BILING.
    [6] Using WINDOWS EXPLORER, double-click on C:\BILING\SUPERLEX.EXE. After typing in the key number, go to FILE menu | ADD BOOK...
    [7] Navigate to C:\BILING and double-click on ORD.AND, click OK.
    [8] Create a shortcut to the SUPERLEX.EXE program, and place in the START | PROGRAMS menu.

4: Search box displays “???????” when copy and pasting from word processor

If a word is copied from a word processor using a Windows Unicode Cyrillic font, the word appears as “???????”. Unfortunately the ORD was not developed to recognize the Unicode fonts. In order to copy and paste into the Russian to English search box successfully, the word processor must use one of the OUP Cyrillic fonts.

5: Search word does not appear highlighted in the text

When viewing an entry from the RESULTS FROM SEARCH window, the word initially searched for does not appear highlighted, making it difficult to find the section of the entry relating to the word searched. Unfortunately there is no fix available for this problem.

6: Printing Russian text

When printing, the Russian text prints using the wrong font, therefore not appearing as Russian text. English text will, however, print correctly.
