Update for the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary on CD-ROM v3.0
Information Regarding the SOED v3.0.1 Update
Thank you for choosing the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary on CD-ROM version 3.0. We are especially excited to have recently released the SOED v3.0 on CD-ROM with a completely new user interface and more advanced searching. Since the release of the original software, minor functionality improvements have been made in response to user feedback. This update provides these minor improvements, but is not necessary for full functionality for the SOED.
New Functionality includes:
- Facelift for better graphics and user interaction
- Better highlighting for search fields
- Loading page to assist in dictionary start-up
- Screen settings saved on close
- Improved print results
- New option: Keep SOED in front
OUP Technical Support recommends that you download the update by following the instructions below for a better SOED user experience. However, the update is not necessary and users may choose to opt out of the update process.
- With the SOED already installed in the normal way, download the following file by clicking on the below link:
- Extract the zipped update file and double click on SOED_Update_3-0-1.exe
- The Install-Shield wizard should load, follow the instructions, making sure the destination of the install is the same place where you installed the SOED

- The download is a ZIP file, extract the PKG file using software like StuffIT to your desktop
- Double-click the SOED_Update_3.0.1.pkg file on the desktop to open the installer package.
- Follow the instructions on the installer program, ensuring to choose the destination volume that contains the SOED v3.0
- Select upgrade in the following screen and allow the program to install to the chosen volume
- Close the installer and eject the SOED_Update_3.0.1 drive
