Technical Issues
1: The CD does not autorun to install
The manual says for installation “insert the CD-ROM and follow the instruction dialogue box”, but nothing happens when the CD is put in the drive. Unfortunately the autorun was missed off the CD so to install, go to MY COMPUTER, double-click on the CD drive, double-click on the file TCDIT-1.0.4-Windows-VM_Install.exe

2: Search for ju4 displays tone for ju3
When searching for ju with tone 4, the dictionary displays ju with tone 3 instead. This problem can be fixed by downloading the file py.utf-8.txt and following the steps below for installation.

Using MY COMPUTER navigate to the installation folder C:\PROGRAM FILES\TCDIT\ look for the file CONFIG.JAR.
Extract the files and folders to a temporary folder. There should be three folders called CONFIG, IMAGES, and META-INF.

Open the CONFIG folder and then the MISC folder within this. Replace the file py.utf-8.txt with the downloaded one.

Copy the three folders (CONFIG, IMAGES, and META-INF) to the location C:\PROGRAM FILES\TCDIT\

Rename the file CONFIG.JAR located in C:\PROGRAM FILES\TCDIT\ to CONFIG_ORIG.JAR

3: Definition text is superimposed on to “consult your dictionary...” text
Several instances of this problem have been reported, although there is no solution at present, the developers have been informed. Please contact UK Customer Service if you are experiencing this problem, as your information may help bring a quick solution to the problem.

4: Pronunciation not working on some definitions
It has been reported that in the definition of “make”, the second pronunciation button shown does not produce any sound. Although the developers have been informed of this, please contact UK Customer Service if you experience this problem with other definitions.

5: Copying and Pasting Chinese Characters
Unfortunately, the images of Simplified and Traditional Characters within the dictionary cannot be directly copied or pasted as SimSun text. However, there is a workaround that will allow you to copy and paste the Chinese Characters. Please follow the instructions below:
- Go to File | View Popularity | View 4000 Most Popular Characters
- This opens a Chines Document Viewer with the Characters ordered in most popular usage rank
- Go to Options and select "Disable Click dictionary entry display" (or leave disabled if it says "Enable click dictionary entry display")
- In the dictionary, search for a word or character.
- Its "popularity" or "Rank" will be listed below the word, you can then go back to the rank document, scroll down until you find the character and copy and paste it using "Edit Copy" and then "Paste" or by using CTRL + C and CTRL + V.

6: Installing TCDIT on Windows Vista
The TCDIT is not specified to run in Windows Vista. In fact, when you attempt to install the TCDIT on Vista, there are several installation problems that include freezing on specific portions of the installation and crashes with Java runtime errors. OUP does not support the TCDIT on Vista because it is out of spec, but we have come up with a work around that will install the TCDIT on Vista. Please note, this work around is not supported, and there are several external effects of the software on Vista. For example, to run the TCDIT on Vista automatically resets the color scheme to Windows Basic. If you are interested in the workaround instructions, please contact UK Customer Service.
