Welcome to the first general history newsletter from OUP. We aim to keep you informed of the latest books and events (and great offers) for the general reader.
Spring 2009 sees us publishing a great selection of very diverse books. To begin with, we have Nechema Tec's Defiance, the book behind the major film starring Daniel Craig (in Cinema's now!). This is a startling - and little told - story from the Holocaust: how a small group led the largest armed rescue operation of Jews by Jews in WWII. It's available in all bookshops now. We are also offering you exclusive offers on related titles such as Royals and the Reich and Fleeing Hitler.

We are extremely proud to be Patrick Wright's publishers: there is no more influential commentator on Britishness. February sees the reissue of his two seminal books on Britain - On Living in an Old Country and A Journey Through Ruins. There's also an opportunity to buy his previous book, Iron Curtain in our January sale.
On a similar topic, The Oxford Illustrated History of Britain by Kenneth Morgan, is a beautifully illustrated, authoritative, and lively history of Britain over the last 2000 years. It forms part of the esteemed Oxford Illustrated series, and you can see a complete list of titles available here.
Finally, Grimoires by Owen Davies, publishing in March, leads us into the shadowy, magical, world of books of spells. Grimoires contain everything from charms and remedies for ailments to instructions on calling up the Devil. It's an elegantly written eye-opener - throwing light on the spread of Christianity, as well as the darker manifestations of belief.
