If you wish to copy, reprint or in any way reproduce all or any part, including illustrations, diagrams, and graphics, of a title published by Oxford University Press, you will need permission to do so.

We may in fact not be the copyright holder of the extract or work you wish to use, even if the book was originally published by us. This is particularly the case with anthologies and illustrations, diagrams, or graphics. In these cases please first check the Acknowledgement page (if there is one) or the title page verso before contacting us.

If you are uncertain whether OUP is the publisher of the book in question, you should first check in Whitakers: Books in Print. It is usually the original (usually hardback) publisher who controls extract, quotation and other subsidiary rights.

Another useful source for information on copyright ownership is WATCH (Writers and their Copyright Holders), a project jointly developed by the Universities of Reading and Texas to create an online database of authors and copyright holders.

Even if you think that the book you want to use is in the public domain, it is best to check with us first.
