2003 Caribbean Regional Conference of the International Law Association

The conference will take place on 26 – 29 March 2003 at the Sherbourne Conference Centre, Barbados' premier conference venue, which is located close to Bridgetown and the designated conference hotels. It has been timed to allow delegates to attend both the ILA Caribbean Regional Conference and the 97th Annual Meeting of the American Society of International Law (in Washington, D.C.).

The focus of the conference will be on the role of international law in the Caribbean, a region primarily made up of small island states and states bordering on the Caribbean Sea, one rich in cultures and languages, including English, French, Spanish, Dutch and Portuguese.

Current international legal developments to be discussed include:

  • Human Rights and the Caribbean
  • The Law Related to Offshore Centres: Panel Chair: Mr. William Holder, Deputy General Counsel, International Monetary Fund; and
  • International and Transnational Criminal Law: Panel Chair: Professor William Gilmore, Faculty of Law, University of Edinburgh, Scotland
