| Cavalcade was commissioned by the Hampshire County Youth Orchestra, the orchestra with which Martin Butler played as a young student, and was designed as an `upbeat opener' for the orchestra's 1986 season of concerts. The music explores a number of fanfare-like musical gestures, and was inspired by the unique energy and vigour of youth ensembles. | |
