		This work was commissioned by the Music Educators National Conference, 1994, and was premiered by the National High School Honors Orchestra in April 1994. The Overture reflects a sense of celebration; marked "vigorously" throughout, the music moves through its six minutes in a single span, with a succession of succinct ideas and a kaleidoscope of colours. The style is vibrant and jazzy, and the piece culminates in a brilliant coda. Everyone in the orchestra gets a moment to shine.
