OUP Music Department ftp data

We recommend that first-time visitors read the notes below before accessing OUP's bibliographic data for printed music.

OUP has an ftp (file transfer protocol) site. This is an internet site where files can sit, and which anyone can visit, rather as they visit our website. The difference is that you can download complete files from the OUP ftp site for you own use.

The data

The file of music data contains details of all OUP printed music titles currently in print, and does not include data on music books or ABRSM titles. The file is updated weekly.

Downloading the file

The data is in the form of a zipped tab-delimited text file and can be saved from the OUP ftp site. To save it as a Microsoft Excel file, click on the link to open the feed and then select Save to disk to save it to your computer. Choose the folder on your computer to which you want to save the file. You will need to unzip it. Open Microsoft Excel and open the saved text file. When opening the file in Excel change the format of the first column (ISBN13) to Text from General.

Do not try to open the data file from the ftp site. It is too large and will crash your computer. You need to save it to your own computer before you can open it.
