How is the winner chosen?

The judging panel will look through all anonymized nominations and come up with a shortlist of five.

These short listed candidates will then be contacted and visited by two panel members at their institution where they will be observed teaching and working with the students.

The panel members will take the opportunity to speak to the teacher nominated, their colleagues and students.

All five candidates will then be required to put together a display of work in support of their nomination, for exhibiting at UKCLE's annual conference in January 2009. There will be no formal oral presentation. Help with the display will be given by UKCLE.

The winner will be decided and announced at the conference and rewarded with £3,000 to spend in any way they wish. The prize is not to be seen as a fund for promoting research or any aspect of the winner's work and the nomination need not refer to the prize money in any way.

All short listed candidates will be awarded £250 worth of OUP books.

In addition, £100 of OUP books will be awarded to both nominators of the winner.
